Programmable atomic Large-Scale Quantum Simulation 2.1

Thales Alenia Space Italia

Combining 40 years of experience and a unique diversity of expertise, talents and cultures, Thales Alenia Space architects design and deliver high technology solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, environmental management, exploration, science and orbital infrastructures. Governments, institutions and companies rely on TAS-I to design, operate and deliver satellite-based systems that help them position and connect anyone or anything, everywhere, help observe our planet, help optimize the use of our planet's – and our solar system’s – resources. TAS-I believes in space as humankind’s new horizon, which will enable to build a better, more sustainable life on Earth. A joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), TAS-I also teams up with Telespazio to form the parent companies’ Space Alliance, which offers a complete range of services and solutions. TAS-I, being a large joint venture, encompasses division and country type responsibilities, defined by Thales Group, on its own scale. TAS-I, therefore, has a specific status within Thales Group and has the same organization than the Space Division (DSP). Thales Alenia Space in Italy has developed system-level competences in all space-based application domains through the design and development of complete turnkey secure architectures for institutional or commercial customers. In the domain of Earth Observation, this competence has been acquired through the following main Programmes and activities: Responsible of the design, development and commissioning of dual-use COSMO-SkyMed (CSK) constellation and the COSMO 2nd Generation (CSG) SAR mission prime in Korea with Kompsat-5 for SAR Payload System and SAR Processors Responsibilities of MUSIS, SFM-3, F-DUGS, FIN-DUGS and P-DUGS programs with Italian Ministry of Defence and their coordination with other MoDs in Europe . Study and development of complete SAR-based Earth Observation solutions including a high-revisit, low cost constellation. Responsible of GALILEO G1G System Integration and Verification Support contract, GALILEO GMS. Responsible of EGNOS V2 development. Main actor of GNSS evolution initiatives Thales Alenia Space in Italy has a consolidated heritage in the field of security of Space Systems and Ground components (e.g. Galileo, COSMO-SkyMed & COSMO SG, SICRAL, etc.), including specific engineering skills on cybersecurity topics to constantly address Customer needs.

Role within PASQuanS 2

TAS-I within the consortium will have the role of End-user applications, to define disruptive and impactful Space oriented scenarios for Quantum Simulation platforms Specifically, within the longterm development programme on quantum technologies for space, TAS-I will define the most appealing Use cases in the field of Earth Observation and Navigation, trying to also define an industrial Roadmap for the coming years. A preliminarily identified Use case of interest have individuated in the Mission Planning field for Earth Observation satellites. Indeed, quantum Simulation methodologies could impact the optimization problems of Mission planning, dealing in defining the best allocation strategies for satellite resources to satisfy a list of user requests for observing specific targets on Earth’s surface.
